"content_html": "<p><a href=\"https://rogue-scholar.org/\">Rogue Scholar</a> continues to offer <a href=\"https://chem-bla-ics.linkedchemistry.info/2024/07/21/rogue-scholar-and-more.html\">awesome features</a>.\nIt seems the recent move to InvenioRDM (<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.63517/kshzw-ay335\">14.0 was just released</a>) was a good one. It does require rewrites, but make\nthings more scalable. One thing that did exist in the InvenioRDM-based Rogue Scholar last year was <a href=\"https://doi.org/10.53731/zyg15-qv911\">citations to blog posts</a>.\nBut even that was <a href=\"https://doi.org/10.53731/1jbsg-kqm79\">redeveloped and relaunched</a> a few days ago. It does not have yet the same amount of citations to\nblog posts as before, but <a href=\"https://rogue-scholar.org/search?q=citations%3A%2A&amp;l=list&amp;p=1&amp;s=10&amp;sort=newest\">more than 1200 can be found again</a>.</p>\n\n<p>Platforms are getting more better at precisely capturing how we communicate science. Rogue Scholar is a great example of that, like the\nno longer existing <a href=\"https://chem-bla-ics.linkedchemistry.info/tag/citeulike\">CiteULike</a> before. And Rogue Scholar has been challenging\nmy Markdown-based blog post to support its functionality. For example, I had to <a href=\"https://chem-bla-ics.linkedchemistry.info/2025/01/19/blog-updates.html\">add a JSON Feed</a>,\nbut also was happy that <a href=\"https://doi.org/10.53731/1xbh4-mnt50\">Rogue Scholar added CiTO Support</a>.</p>\n\n<p>But capturing all citations between things remains an issue. Platforms like Google Scholar and Web of Science do their best, but their\nbest is not Open or nor FAIR or neither. Generally, it has taken way too long for\n<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1045/january2015-brase\">DataCite</a> and <a href=\"https://doi.org/10.7717/peerj-cs.86\">Software Citations</a> to be picked up.\nHowever, we can <a href=\"https://chem-bla-ics.linkedchemistry.info/2024/12/30/fair-blog-to-blog-citations.html\">take control ourselves</a> when\nsolutions do not exist.</p>\n\n<p>And because I want journal-to-blog citations are FAIR too, I hacked up another extension of my blog today. I can now add lines like this\nto the metadata of blog post:</p>\n\n<div class=\"language-yaml highlighter-rouge\"><div class=\"highlight\"><pre class=\"highlight\"><code><span class=\"na\">cited-in</span><span class=\"pi\">:</span> <span class=\"s\">cito:discusses:10.1186/1471-2105-8-487</span>\n</code></pre></div></div>\n\n<p>What is encodes is that the article with doi:<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1186/1471-2105-8-487\">10.1186/1471-2105-8-487</a> (one of my own)\ndiscusses <a href=\"https://chem-bla-ics.linkedchemistry.info/2006/12/17/counting-stereoisomers-from-molecular_17.html\">one of the posts in my blog</a>.</p>\n\n<p>Online, this is rendered with <a href=\"https://doi.org/10.7717/peerj-cs.214\">citation.js</a> like this:</p>\n\n<p><img src=\"/assets/images/blogs_citedin.png\" alt=\"\" /></p>\n\n<p>Here, the <em>References</em> are the things I cite in my blog post, and the <em>Cited in</em> are things citing this blog post.</p>\n\n<h3 id=\"how-blog-posts-are-cited\">How blog posts are cited</h3>\n\n<p>Now, DOIs for blog posts are a new thing: they did not exist when I started blogging. And for the 12 citations I found so far,\nthey are not using a DOI. I doubt that these citations are easily found in CrossRef or DataCite. Here are two examples, of increasing\ncomplexity. The first one is how many citation styles would do it:</p>\n\n<p><img src=\"/assets/images/blogs_citing1.png\" alt=\"\" /></p>\n\n<p>But they can also look like this:</p>\n\n<p><img src=\"/assets/images/blogs_citing2.png\" alt=\"\" /></p>\n\n<p>And scientific journals sometimes even use URL shorteners and then it may look like this:</p>\n\n<p><img src=\"/assets/images/blogs_citing3.png\" alt=\"\" /></p>\n\n<p>This makes it a challenge for any platform to pick up these citations!</p>\n\n<h3 id=\"how-about-the-json-feed\">How about the JSON Feed</h3>\n\n<p>That leaves me with how I make this information avaiable, a bit towards FAIR, but at least machine readable.\nThis is done with a <a href=\"https://egonw.github.io/JSONFeed-extensions/\">JSON Feed extension</a> (at the time of writing, I did\nnot add this proposal yet). My <code class=\"language-plaintext highlighter-rouge\">archive.json</code> feed now contains 12 fragments like this:</p>\n\n<div class=\"language-json highlighter-rouge\"><div class=\"highlight\"><pre class=\"highlight\"><code><span class=\"nl\">\"_citations\"</span><span class=\"p\">:</span><span class=\"w\"> </span><span class=\"p\">[</span><span class=\"w\">\n </span><span class=\"p\">{</span><span class=\"w\">\n </span><span class=\"nl\">\"url\"</span><span class=\"p\">:</span><span class=\"w\"> </span><span class=\"s2\">\"https://doi.org/10.1038/nchem.2187\"</span><span class=\"p\">,</span><span class=\"w\">\n </span><span class=\"nl\">\"doi\"</span><span class=\"p\">:</span><span class=\"w\"> </span><span class=\"s2\">\"10.1038/nchem.2187\"</span><span class=\"p\">,</span><span class=\"w\">\n </span><span class=\"nl\">\"cito\"</span><span class=\"p\">:</span><span class=\"w\"> </span><span class=\"p\">[</span><span class=\"w\">\n </span><span class=\"s2\">\"citesForInformation\"</span><span class=\"w\">\n </span><span class=\"p\">]</span><span class=\"w\">\n </span><span class=\"p\">}</span><span class=\"w\">\n</span><span class=\"p\">]</span><span class=\"w\">\n</span></code></pre></div></div>\n\n<p>It matches the structure of the <a href=\"https://egonw.github.io/JSONFeed-extensions/references.html\">_references extension</a>.</p>\n\n<p>Let’s see where this goes :)</p>\n\n<h4>References</h4>\n<div class=\"csl-bib-body\">\n <div class=\"csl-entry\">Brase, J., Lautenschlager, M., &#38; Sens, I.
